Question

Why am I not receiving test emails sent to my company's email address?

Answer

Inbound email messages where the 'from' address domain is managed by the recipient mail server could potentially get blocked. Email servers usually know which domains they are authoritative for or operate internally. An incoming email claiming to be from a domain that your mail server manages, but was generated externally, would be flagged as a spoof and blocked.

In other words, if you set up an email job from an email address on mycompany.com domain, the mycompany.com mail server will reject your message just becauase the (external) Boomerang server generated the inbound email.

There are few ways around this issue:

  1. Send your email blast using a different 'from' address domain that only Boomerang manages. This could be either a subdomain (e.g. sales.mycompany.com) or a different purchased domain.

  2. Send your test emails using an address from known ESPs like Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.

  3. Check with your email administrator, in charge of your company's domain, to see if there is a work around this issue.

We recommend that you use the subdomain option as it allows you to still have your company's domain in your 'from' line, while giving Boomerang the ability to manage it externally.
